India Women’s cricketer, Deepti Sharma has been nominated for the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy for the best women cricketer for the season of 2017-18.

It also includes senior domestic cricket. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) gave the information of her nomination to the Cricket Association of Bengal. Deepti represents Bengal in the domestic circuit. Hence the information had to be passed to her state board.

The award comprises a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakhs. Meanwhile, the Cricket Association of Bengal also got nominated for the Best Overall Performance Award.

It is for the consistency shown by the state board in producing quality teams for both junior and senior cricket. They have been pretty consistent in both men’s and women’s cricket. Bengal performed impressively in the domestic tournaments for the season of 2017-18.

The Award for those players will be conferred at the BCCI Annual Awards. It is slated to be held in Bangalore on 12th June.

“The fact that we recently got the best pitch and ground awards for the domestic season as well as the IPL, and now the Best Overall Performance Award for consistency is not only a matter of satisfaction but it also shows that Bengal Cricket is heading in the right direction,” CAB joint secretary and son of former ICC and BCCI President, Abhishek Dalmiya said.

Indian team currently busy in Malaysia

The Indian women’s team is currently busy in Malaysia fighting it out in the Asia Cup. They lost their very recent match against Bangladesh after a relatively poor bowling performance.

The score of 141 was always going to be a competitive one. However, it was some good sensible batting by Bangladesh which helped them beat India for the first time in the Asia Cup.

Deepti scored a fluent 32 with the bat. She looked in good touch and stitched together a valuable partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur. However, her knock was not enough to get India past the 150-mark. Eventually, Bangladesh won by seven wickets riding on a brilliant all-round performance by Rumana Ahmed.
