On day 4 of the Lord’s Ashes Test, Jofra Archer was bowling with the full steam. Bouncer, bouncer and more bouncers was the story of the day. During his bouncer-show, Archer hit Steve Smith on his elbow and a few minutes later, he floored him.

Smith was down with a bouncer that hit him in his neck and for a moment, all came to a standstill. Smith decided to walk off the field. He did it on his own, which came as a big relief.

The right-handed batsman gave signs of being fit when he returned to bat after a fall of the wicket and everything seemed to be ‘ok’ for Smith. However, on the morning of the final day’s play, Smith suffered after-effects of concussion and was ruled out of the match.

He was replaced by Marnus Labuschagne, who became the first player to be named concussion substitute in international cricket. He fielded for his team on day 5 and came out to bat after the fall of the second wicket in Australia’s second innings.

Playing his first ball of the series, Labuschagne suffered the same fate as Smith as he was also hit by a bouncer from the same bowler, Archer. England’s players rushed to check on the batsman. The Australian physio was also on the field and after a while, Labuschagne showed positive signs and started batting. Here is the video –

The fans, for a while, could not believe what had happened as Labuschagne had just arrived on the crease and wasn’t expecting to be bowled a bouncer.

Archer, once again, delivered to the promise that he had shown before his Test debut and he has been able to create an impact.

Meanwhile, Australia are chasing a target of 267. They are three down for 53. Jack Leach scalped the wicket of Cameron Bancroft soon after the lunch break. England need to scalp seven wickets in 31 overs of the play. Australia have to survive the fiery pace of Archer and it will be interesting to see if the current Ashes champions are able to survive the remaining overs.
