India’s pioneer limited-overs opening pair Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma would be up against each other on Thursday when the first qualifier of IPL 2020 takes place in Dubai. Defending champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals will lock horns to kickstart the playoffs of the tournament as they will aim to reach the final. Shikhar Dhawan conceded that the Capitals would look to put pressure on the opposing captain Rohit Sharma.
Rohit Sharma returned for the game against SunRisers Hyderabad after missing the last few games, owing to a left hamstring injury. Not only did the 33-year old had a forgettable outing against the Orange Army, but also Rohit has undergone a modest season. In ten games, the right-handed batsman has managed only 264 runs at 26.40 with a strike rate of 126.92.

Shikhar Dhawan acknowledged that Rohit Sharma is an outstanding player; however, having not played a few matches, it remains doubtful whether he is in good touch. Dhawan admitted that a player is under pressure after returning from injury and as an opposition, Delhi Capitals will try taking advantage of that.
“Of course, Rohit is a very good player. But after having not played matches, you never know if he is in good touch. He must have recovered well, my best wishes to him. As an opposition, we have to see if he is in touch, or if he is confident. Of course, when a player returns from injury, there will be pressure and we are going to take advantage of that,” Dhawan stated as quoted by India Today.

The southpaw, who has 525 runs in IPL 2020, underlined that he is keeping himself fresh and has planned against Mumbai Indians’ pace spearheads, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. Dhawan is keen to go out there and perform and ultimately steer his side to the final.
“I am relaxing, keeping myself fresh. I have seen them enough times and watched their videos again. I already know my plans. I am looking forward to going and performing and winning the game for our team,” he added further.
