The members of the Delhi Ranji Trophy side were left stranded at the airport in Indore, where the final of Ranji Trophy was played, a report in TOI suggests.
The flight could not take off on time due to the technical glitch, and after being seated in the flight for a few hours, the players and the co-passengers left the plane due to the technical issues. The members of the team are expected to reach the capital state today.
Among few of the members who were left stranded were Rishab Pant, Unmukt Chand, coach KP Bhaskar, selector and former first-class player Hari Gidwani, team manager Shankar Saini and a few others. The report also adds that Gautam Gambhir had already left the city earlier and was not a part of the side that faced the delay.
Delhi lost the final of the tournament by a margin of nine wickets. The Rishab Pant led side just asked Vidarbha to chase down 29 runs, which Vidarbha did on day four in the extended session.
After being asked to bat on day 1, Delhi posted 295 on the board. Vidarbha had a good start and responded with 547 to Delhi’s total, thus getting a lead of 252 runs.
All the chances which Delhi had to post even a target of 100 got quashed with the dismissal of Dhruv Shorey, and in the end, Delhi failed to relive the glory after ten years. Vidarbha, on the other hand, had every reason to smile, as it was their first final and they accomplished the task in the first go.
In fact, the semi-final against Karnataka was the first time when Vidarbha reached that stage. Pacer Rajneesh Gurbani was handed the Man of the Match award for taking eight wickets in the final, and another good news came for him soon when he received a message of being called up to the trials of Mumbai Indians.
