BCCI national selector Devang Gandhi was on Thursday ejected from the Bengal dressing room for unauthorised entry at the Eden Gardens on Day 2 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Bengal and Andhra. However, the national selector said that he hasn’t broken any protocol and entered the dressing room after taking permission from the match referee and Anti Corruption Unit.
The incident took place after senior players of Bengal raised a question about the anti-corruption protocol, which specifies only players and team support-staff selected for the match can be present in the dressing room. Former Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary was among the few who raised the issue and reported it to the match referee who asked Devang Gandhi to come out of the dressing room.

I Have Not Broken Any Protocol – Devang Gandhi
Speaking about the incident, the former India cricketer said that he had obtained prior permission from the required personnel before entering the dressing room. Further, he said that the event took place when the match was not going, and most of the players were not in the dressing room.
“No breach because I have obtained prior permission from the match referee, ACU and it was not during the course of the match which was very important. Most of the players were out, and physio suggested that you come in and I was there for a little bit and then went out straight away. I was not comfortable myself as in the last three years, I have not broken any protocols,” Gandhi told ANI.

Speaking about the game, Bengal posted 289 runs in the first innings banking on a century from Abhishek Raman. Manoj Tiwary and Koushik Ghosh also got starts but failed to capitalise on it before Andhra bowlers rattled down the lower order. With most of the second day’s play wasted due to bad light, Andhra will hope to secure a first-innings lead quickly to bag three points.
