Dhoni to retire after India-Sri Lanka 2nd ODI encounter

With the Indian team for the upcoming ODI match against Sri Lanka being named, it is sure that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will don the Indian colours once again. However, MS will not be the only Dhoni in action that day. A sniffer dog named Dhoni will also take the field that day, but it will be the last day at service, unlike the legendary Indian captain.

Dhoni has been a working with the Indian Police for the last ten years and has been an extremely loyal and dedicated servant. 13th December, the match between India and Sri Lanka will mark the retirement of Dhoni, who is a white Labrador. To other dogs, John and Preeti will also retire along with Dhoni in a farewell ceremony organized by the Indian Police.

The dogs will be handed over to their new owners after their retirement which will be chosen through an auction. People who are interested in adopting them will come up and bid to own these extremely loyal and adorable warriors. All the dogs have a base price of Rs.800 each.

Amrik Singh, the in-charge of the dog squad, informed Chandigarh Newsline that since joining the squad on February 10th, 2007, Dhoni has been crucial in solving some cases of extreme importance and has also been a part of some high-profile security operations. Apart from that, Dhoni has also caught some drug peddlers which portrays the ability of the dog.

“Dhoni used to assist us in checking at PCA stadium during the international matches. During the world cup semifinal in 2011 between India and Pakistan, when the Prime Ministers of both the countries came to the city, Dhoni was working with us,” Amrik Singh said.

“He likes to sleep six to seven hours a day. He sleeps in the daytime. He is a specialist in sniffing explosives. He is the quickest of the dogs we have when it comes to doing any search operations. We are going to miss him. He has been a great asset for us,” he said.

The other two dogs John and Preeti have also completed their ten years of service and are experts in their respective departments. Preeti is also a specialist in sniffing the explosives while John is a smell/scent specialist at murders and other crime spots.
