Didn't Have A Good Understanding Of Where To Draw The Line: Virat Kohli On His First Tour Of Australia

When it comes to showing expression on a cricket field, Virat Kohli never shies away. The India skipper has made a name for himself for his feisty character. No matter what the situation is or who the opposition is, Kohli never checks himself from giving it back.

And when it comes to Australian players as well as their fans, Kohli enjoys a special bond. It all began during the infamous tour of 2011-12 which India lost 4-0. Unable to cope with the hostile crowd, Kohli had ended up flashing the finger at crowd. The incident only piled up the pressure on him as he was failing to do well with the bat. But in the following innings he scored a stunning ton in Adelaide to bounce back. But the tour was just the start of Kohli’s fiery relation with Australia.

The last time India and Australia met in a Test series, it was marred with numerous controversies. India had won the fiercely-fought series at home last year. However, controversies had left a bad taste in the mouth. To make things worse, the Australian media did not leave a single opportunity to target Virat Kohli.

The series of controversies had started when Australia captain Steve Smith took dressing room help in taking a DRS call. A furious Kohli had then stopped short of calling him a cheat in a press conference. However, Kohli had let his emotions get the better of him at the end of the series.

He is in Australia once again.  And while the cricketing world is waiting for yet another verbal showdown between Kohli and Australia, the India skipper has insisted he is a changed man now. He also admitted that he didn’t know where to draw the line on his first trip to Australia.

“The one thing is that I’ve always been myself, I’ve never tried to be someone else because of the opinion. Hence, I learn from my own mistakes, I realise my own mistakes myself and just kept correcting them through the journey,” Kohli told Fox Cricket.

“But (I’m) massively different from the last two tours, especially the first one, I was so bad.

“I didn’t have a good understanding of where to draw the line and stuff like that. Those are things that I, I wouldn’t say I regret, but those definitely I look at them as mistakes.

“But mistakes that were important for me to commit so I can learn from them. I was never a perfect mould of typical, old school cricketer, I always just wanted to find my own way and I guess those things were a part of that journey,” he added.
