The former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is one of the most successful captains as he took India to the finals of 2003 World Cup, where they lost against a better Australian side. However, Ganguly had to endure a rough phase in his illustrious career when he had a fall out with the then India coach Greg Chapell under whose reign India had to face to new as they got knocked out from the group stages of 2007 World Cup.
Present at the India Today Conclave, Ganguly recalled those memories when he was sidelined from the Indian squad after stepping down from captaincy. Remembering those tough day, Ganguly felt he was not treated the same way former Indian captain MS Dhoni is being treated after giving up captaincy.
“Up until 2006 the graph was only up, I never missed a series, I was the captain of India for six years and the world was at my feet and then suddenly you didn’t find yourself in the team,” Ganguly was heard saying at that event.
Talking about getting dropped from the team and stepping down as the captain, Ganguly looked very disappointed.

“Not many captains in world cricket would actually go from being captain to not even being able to find a position on the side. You look at MS Dhoni, he is not the captain of the Indian team but look at the way Virat Kohli looks after him and the way they go about their jobs. So it was tough but it made me a better person,” the 45-year-old Ganguly stated.

However, Ganguly made a strong comeback to the squad and enjoyed a brilliant stint under Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni before retiring in the final Test of the 2008 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Ganguly represented India in 113 Tests matches and 311 ODIs scoring 7212 Tests and 11363 ODI runs. He made a formidable partnership with master blaster Sachin Tendulkar at the start of India’s innings and is recognized as one of the best off-side players of his time.
