Former India spinner Dilip Doshi said that he was shocked to see Rishabh Pant keeping wickets ahead of Wriddhiman Saha in New Zealand. Indian skipper Virat Kohli had faced a lot of heat from the fans and experts when he decided to include Pant in the Test squad placing him above the in-form Wriddhiman Saha.
Pant has been a regular starter for Team India in the limited-overs format since MS Dhoni’s departure. However, he hasn’t done justice with his potential as he has failed time and again with the bat and the gloves for the Men in Blue.
Team India failed to find the perfect replacement of Dhoni since his departure after the 2019 World Cup last year. Now, former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi has also criticized Kohli’s move of prioritizing Pant ahead of Saha.
Dilip Doshi Shocked To See Pant Wicket-keeping In New Zealand
“I was shocked to see Rishabh Pant keeping the wickets in New Zealand. I would play the best wicketkeeper in India first, and that’s Wriddhiman Saha. He has proven his mettle as a wicketkeeper-batsman as well. [But] wicketkeeping is such an important position that I would really not mess around with it. In the absence of Dhoni, because he has left a few years back, Wriddhi should be the best choice for India,” said Dilip.
“Pant has [been] spoken about [a lot] by many critics, and I’m sure he has a future, but if I were him, I would perfect my wicketkeeping technique first before donning the India cap at the Test level,” he told Sportstar.
Rishabh Pant Had A Miserable Show After Numerous Chances
Pant has been given numerous chances but the young lad has failed miserably. However, in the limited-overs format, KL Rahul seems to be cementing his place since the time he has replaced Pant and has been a regular starter for team India portraying his versatility across the batting order.
On the other hand, in Tests, Saha had his seat fixed as he depicted good performances game after game after game. But, to the shock of the fans, the Indian team management decided to go ahead with Pant in the Test series and the decision turned out to be futile.
