Dilip Vengsarkar, who has been a cricket administrator himself, slammed board president Sourav Ganguly for wearing too many hats. Vengsarkar took a dig at Ganguly, a week after, he questioned the non-selection of Suryakumar Yadav after his prolific performance in the IPL 2020.

Vengsarkar pointed out that Ganguly is speaking to the media on behalf of the IPL chairman or selectors. The former India batsman was also left startled when Ganguly came to the fore to justify the non-selection of the Mumbai Indians batsman, in place of, Sunil Joshi who has been appointed the chairman of selectors.

Sourav Ganguly was speaking on behalf of the IPL chairman: Dilip Vengsarkar

“When the IPL dates and venues were being discussed and organized, he was speaking on behalf of the IPL chairman. Sadly, time and again he’s sticking his neck out on behalf of those who are capable of taking decisions and explaining them on their own. Is he undermining their credentials? Or does he feel he knows more than the others?,” Vengsarkar told TOI.

“I always believed the game should be run by former cricketers and was expecting a lot from Ganguly. However, whatever I have seen so far is beginning to change my mind,” he added.

“It’s quite astonishing to see the Ganguly wearing so many hats as he speaks on behalf of the supposedly appointed chairman of selectors, Sunil Joshi, as why ‘X’ was dropped and ‘Y’ was not selected and why ‘Z’ was not considered, besides how somebody is still not fit,” Vengsarkar added.

Ganguly is the first India cricketer after the Maharaja of Vizianagaram to become the president of Board of Control For Cricket in India (BCCI). He learnt the early ropes of administration from late Jagmohan Dalmiya and wanted to emulate him at the role.
