Former English seamer Dominic Cork has heaped praises on Mumbai Indians’ two Indian players, remaining confident that they will don the national colours soon enough. Mumbai Indians have often managed to produce a plethora of youngsters, who have shone at the international level and made a big name for themselves. Dominic Cork reckons that Rahul Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav will indeed play for India in a few years.

Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the best batsmen in IPL 2020 and was quite unfortunate to miss out on India’s limited-overs squad for the tour of Australia. So far, the 30-year old has 461 runs in 15 matches with four half-centuries at a strike rate of nearly 150. On the other hand, Rahul Chahar has not had a particularly impressive edition; however, he is a clever leggie with plenty of variations in his repertoire.

Dominic Cork underlined that Mumbai Indians have got some outstanding players rising through the ranks, singling out Rahul Chahar and Suryakumar Yadav. He backed the pair to don the national colours and be part of the men in blue. It is imperative to note that Chahar has already one T20 international for India.

Mumbai Indians have got some fantastic young players coming in – two I will name – Suryakumar Yadav and Rahul Chahar – two, that I think will play for India, definitely,” Dominic Cork told Star Sports.

Dominic Cork highlighted that the defending champions have got all their bases covered and have credible back-ups for all their first-choice players. The 49-year old stated that if Trent Boult becomes injured, they have got a like-for-like replacement in Mitchell McClenaghan, who is also a left-arm seamer. On Tuesday, Mumbai Indians will square off in the IPL 2020 final against the Delhi Capitals.

I think they have got every single piece of the jigsaw sorted and when you look at their squad, they have the best squad, it’s simple. Because, say, if Trent Boult got injured, they have a left-armer to go straight in, in Mitch McClenaghan. So, every little piece of the jigsaw is good,” he added.
