Former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has criticised Kolkata Knight Riders’ move of replacing Dinesh Karthik with Eoin Morgan as captain of the team for the remainder of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Last week, Karthik stepped down as KKR skipper and handed over the reigns to World Cup-winning England captain Morgan. The wicketkeeper-batsman had taken the decision with a “view to focus on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause”.

And while KKR and Morgan were all praise for the ‘selfless’ decision taken by Karthik, Ajit Agarkar is not very impressed with it. The former KKR allrounder stated that the decision was needless while opining that such decisions ‘add to the disruptions of the team’.

“I don’t think replacing Dinesh Karthik after seven games when you’re sitting fourth in the table is the right move in my opinion. It does add to the disruption of the team and you could see the way they performed against Mumbai Indians, even though it was a tough game,” said Ajit Agarkar while speaking on Star Sports’ show ‘Fanweek’.

“I don’t think it was a right move. You make plans with a certain captain through the course of the year and in spite of sitting fourth on the table, it was a very strange move for me,” Ajit Agarkar added.

Well, KKR did not take long to bounce back after the humbling they received at the hands of Mumbai Indians. In their following game, they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in a nail-biting thriller to return to winning ways and remain on course for the playoffs. The team is currently sitting at the fourth spot with 10 points from nine matches and is slated to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.
