Former Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has suggested Rishabh Pant to be the best version of himself and not try to be MS Dhoni. Notably, Pant has been under the scanner ever since the 2019 ICC World Cup in England.

The young cricketer from Delhi burst onto the scene with a lot of expectations. His clean hitting in the Indian Premier Leagues attracted a lot of eyeballs. However, Rishabh Pant has failed to live upto the expectations in limited-overs cricket.

He was touted as the replacement of MS Dhoni but Pant is yet to fire since becoming the first-choice wicket-keeper after the World Cup. Along with his batting, his keeping skills is also under the scanner. Ever since Pant broke into team India, fans have been comparing him with Dhoni.

But Adam Gilchrist urged the fans not to compare as it puts additional pressure on the cricketer. The former Aussie cricketer feels the benchmark set by MS Dhoni is unlikely to achieve. The former India skipper is arguably the best wicket-keeper to represent the country and is one of the best finishers in the cricket world.

I’m not big on comparisons, like I have said before. I think Indians fans shouldn’t be trying to compare him to Dhoni. Dhoni has set such a high benchmark. One day someone might match it but it is probably unlikely,” Gilchrist said. “Rishabh looks like a very talented young player. Just don’t put too much pressure on him too early and expect that he’s going to produce Dhoni-like performances every day,” he added.

Furthermore, Adam Gilchrist also suggested Rishabh Pant not to copy the legendary MS Dhoni. Gilchrist feels Pant needs to work on his game and be the best version of himself. The 21-year-old will have two more matches against Bangladesh to get his form back.

“My advice to Rishabh Pant will be: learn everything you can from Dhoni. Don’t try to be Dhoni. Just try to be the best Rishabh Pant you can,” Gilchrist concluded.
