Durban Heat Rope In Gary Kirsten As Their Head Coach

Duban Heat has roped in World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten for the upcoming edition of the Mzansi Super League. Duban will be based at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban. The former South Africa cricketer will work alongside Proteas stars David Miller and Keshav Maharaj in the Heats.

Kirsten joins Durban Heat
Kirsten is one of the best coaches in world cricket currently. They have coached India to the ICC World Cup in 2011 ending their 28-year barren run in the competition. Gary Kirsten has also worked with T20 franchise teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash Leagues. The former Proteas is well-known for his management and is loved by the cricketers.
World Cup winning coach and one of South African cricket’s favourite son’s Gary Kirsten will take up the reins as head coach of the Durban Heat for the second edition of the Mzansi Super League starting at the beginning of November.

Speaking about his new association, Gary Kirsten said that it is an excellent opportunity to wok again with South African cricket. Kirsten also said that he has good memories from the ground and will hope to make more in the coming days.
“I have got fond memories of playing cricket at Kingsmead and with my wife being from these parts she thinks it is a natural progression,” Kirsten said of his appointment. “It is also a great opportunity to be involved in South African cricket and when Heinrich (Strydom, Dolphins CEO) gave me the call I thought it was a great chance to stay relevant in the T20 space,” he added.

Furthermore, Gary Kirsten also revealed his plans for Durban Heat in the upcoming competition. He said that he will aim to win as many games as possible and will hope to find the rhythm early in the tournament.
“The priority is obviously to win games but we want to get people behind the brand and get the spectators to feel that the Durban Heat is their team. It’s a fantastic opportunity for me to add as much value as I can to the side that we select so that they can reach their potential,” Kirsten concluded.
