It is fair to say that MS Dhoni is one of the fastest runners and of the fittest athletes that has ever graced the cricket field. We have seen that time and again, and the same was visible in the immediate aftermath of the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The 2018 season proved to be a fairytale homecoming for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. The most consistent franchise in the history of the cash-rich league made a resounding return after having served a two-year ban due to the 2013 spot-fixing scandal when they beat Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad in what turned out to be a pretty one-sided final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

However, the fans were given a double treat by Dhoni and Dwayne Bravo when the duo participated in a 3-run dash with bats in their hand. The race turned out to be a pretty close one but ultimately Dhoni triumphed his West Indian counterpart by the finest of margins.

Opening up on the race, Dwayne Bravo revealed that MS Dhoni kept poking him throughout the season on his age which led to all-rounder challenging his captain for a dash after the tournament was over.

“He kept saying throughout the entire season that I am an old man, I am an old man. I am very slow. I told him, ‘I will challenge you in a sprint between the wickets’. He said ‘no chance’. I said ‘we will do it after the tournament is over’,” Dwayne Bravo revealed during an Instagram live chat with Chennai Super Kings.

Bravo revealed that the reason behind holding the race at the end of the tournament was that he did not want that either of them to “pop their hamstrings”

“I said ‘I don’t want to do it in the middle of the tournament and one of us pop our hamstrings’. We did it after the final. It was a very close race, very very close,” he added

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni was supposed to make his comeback to competitive cricket with the 13th edition of the IPL but that has now been delayed due to the onslaught of the global pandemic that is COVID-19.
