ECB Working Closely With The Government To Resume Cricket Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has ensured that they are working closely with the English government to ensure the smooth return of cricket amid the coronavirus crisis. The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has put the entire cricketing action to a standstill.
Multiple series and tournaments have either been postponed or been suspended by various cricketing boards amid the coronavirus outbreak. The inaugural season of The Hundred, the ECB’s new eight-team (men’s and women’s) tournament, stand postponed until 2021 in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, the ECB confirmed on Thursday (April 30).
Now, the ECB has ensured that it is working in close quarters with the government to get cricket back on track as soon as possible.
ECB Working With Government For Return Of Cricket
“ECB is aware of the government’s announcement pertaining to the next steps of this crisis and we will continue to be led by their advice,” ECB said in an official statement. “While our recommendation to suspend all forms of recreational cricket remains in place at present, everyone across the sport is hoping that we will see cricket played across England and Wales this summer,” the statement read.
“We are working closely with the government to establish when and how it will be safe to resume play, and we look forward to sharing our plans as they progress,” the cricket body added.
Major Cricketing Events Come To A Hold After Coronavirus Outbreak
The sporting spectrum has also faced a lot due to the outbreak of the pandemic. Major cricketing action all across the globe has come to a standstill. India has also suffered a massive loss due to the rapid spread of the virus, and the entire country has come to a grinding halt. India was in a 21-day national lockdown from March 25, and now the nation-wide lockdown has been extended until May 17.
Recently, the IPL 2020 was suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak. To the disappointment of the cricket fans, the India-South Africa ODI series has also been called off. Apart from it, the Road Safety World Series has also been suspended.
The English board had decided to postpone the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka due to the coronavirus pandemic. The series was to be a part of the World Test Championship (WTC). All the English players playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) were called back immediately, and the tournament has been postponed.
