The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have admitted that they are open to discussion over the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) proposed four-nation tournament. The four nations include India, England, Australia and one another team to be decided later. Notably, this is seen as an attempt to stop the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) decision to host a major event every year.

Meanwhile, the proposed event will be held starting in 2021 and will be hosted on a rotational basis. But this has divided opinions, with the involved teams set to earn big money. The ICC doesn’t approve tournaments involving more than three teams, which are not part of its own multi-lateral roster. BCCI had floated this idea when they met for the Annual General Meeting earlier this month.

England acknowledges four-nation tournament

ECB, in a statement, acknowledged BCCI’s idea of a four-nation tournament. The officials admitted that they are in talks with other cricketing nations to see the future of the proposed competition.

“We meet regularly with other leaders from the major cricketing nations to share learnings and discuss topics that impact our sport,” the ECB said in a statement given to ‘ESPNcricinfo’. “A four-nation tournament was raised at a meeting with the BCCI in December, and we are open to discussions with other ICC members to see if this concept can develop,” it added.

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia is yet to acknowledge the same despite BCCI and ECB coming out in public to discuss the prospect of the four-nations event. It will be interesting to see if the idea sees the daylight, which will make the calendar year more eventful.
