'Hope I have given back to you all': Emotional Shane Watson Delivers Heartfelt Message To CSK Fans

Shane Watson has bid an emotional goodbye to the Chennai Super Kings fans after announcing his retirement from all forms of the game. The former Australia allrounder announced his decision just a day after CSK’s journey in the ongoing IPL came to an end with a nine-wicket win over Kings XI Punjab.

CSK had signed up Shane Watson in 2018 for INR 4 crore after he his two lukewarm seasons at the Royal Challengers Bangalore. And the Australian became a fan favourite in the very first season with the Chennai-based outfit. He scored 555 runs in that season including a memorable century in the final against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He almost repeated his final heroics in 2019, smashing a 59-ball 80 before getting run-out in the final over as CSK lost to Mumbai Indians by a run. He, however, could not really deliver as per expectations this season as CSK bowed out at the league stage for the first time in the history of the IPL.

The veteran scored 299 runs from 11 games as CSK finished at the seventh spot with 6 wins from 14 games.

A day after announcing his retirement, Shane Watson delivered a heartfelt message to the CSK fans. Looking quite emotional, the legendary allrounder started by announcing his decision before saying that the moment was emotional. He also thanked the CSK fans for their support

“Hello everyone the yellow army. I just want to announce to everyone that this year for CSK has been my last year of playing cricket . I’m going to be retiring from all playing from now,” said Shane Watson in the video posted by CSK. “Its a very emotional time.”

“Grateful for your love and support through the last three years. You never know what’s going to happen in the future, if I am still involved in some way. Hope I have given back to you all for all the support you have given me,” he added.

Before playing for CSK and RCB, Shane Watson had also played for Rajasthan Royals. In all, he played 145 games for three teams in the competition, scoring 3874 runs at a strike-rate of 137.91. He hit four centuries and also claimed a hat-trick amongst his 92 IPL wickets.
