ENG vs AUS 2018, 2nd ODI: England Take 2-0 lead; Roy, Buttler Shine with Bat

England continued their winning ways, as they registered a comprehensive victory by 38-run in the end in the 2nd ODI against Australia at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
Jason Roy was adjudged the Man of the Match Award, courtesy a sensational century. The much-needed impetus was provided by Jos Buttler who smashed quickfire 91 off 70 deliveries. Despite a valiant century from Shaun Marsh, Australia fell way short in the end.
Early in the day, it was Tim Paine who won the toss and opted to field. Openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow receded out in the middle. Both began quite brilliantly. The openers looked in fluent touch and struck some exceptional shots in the process.
Bairstow raced to 42 off 24 deliveries before his dismissal. He looked in sublime touch and the partnership of 63 runs in the 9th over proved to quite vital in the end.
Alex Hales and Joe Root made 26 and 22, respectively, as England consolidate on a position of strength. Roy was playing quite brilliantly at the other end.
Following the dismissals of Root and Hales, Roy was joined by Jos Buttler who changed the complexion of the match. He looked in sensational touch and smashed eight fours and a couple of sixes during his whirlwind knock of 91 off 70 deliveries.

The Australian bowlers bowled well in the last few overs which restricted England under a score of 350. Andrew Tye who has been a brilliant limited-overs bowler was smashed for 81 runs in just nine overs.
The target of 343 was always going to be difficult for the visitors. However, they knew the start was important, and if they got off to a good one, anything was possible.
Australia didn’t really begin the way they would have liked. But after the fall of the opening wicket, it was Shaun Marsh who took the onus of himself to take Australia to a comfortable position. He started off brilliantly with a few exquisite boundaries. Wickets kept falling at the other end, but Marsh was hardly bothered.
The southpaw’s innings of 131 came in 116 deliveries which studded with ten fours and three sixes. It was the partnership of 96 runs with Ashton Agar which got Australia pretty close to the target.
However, the English bowlers made a good comeback and bowled them out for 304. Liam Plunkett was the pick of the English bowlers with 4/52 while Adil Rashid bagged three wickets. But he conceded 70 runs. In the end, England did manage to help their nerves and complete a convincing in the end.
