Australia came into the fifth match of the ongoing One-day International series against England on the back of four consecutive losses.

Visitors have been pretty ordinary in the majority of the series and hasn’t found any way to beat dominant England. The English batters have been quite brilliant and their breathtaking strokeplay has literally put Australia on the backfoot.

Gone are the days when Australia used to defend 250 with utter disdain especially due to the strong bowling line up they had back then.

Their bowling line-up looks pretty weak at this point in time and their batting hasn’t been consistent either. It was evident one more time when England bowled out Australia for 205 runs in just 35th over of the final ODI in Manchester.

The visitors maintained a healthy run-rate all through the innings. However the consistent wickets never really allowed them to stamp their authority.

Aussie skipper Tim Paine won the toss yet again and decided to bat. Travis Head and Aaron Finch got off to a sensational start with both registering boundaries on a consistent basis in the powerplay.

The duo shared a 60-run stand for the opening wicket before the dismissal of Finch for 22 runs in the seventh over. His partner went on to smash a fluent half-century.

Head was eventually dismissed on 56 of 42 deliveries. From 60 for zero, Australia was reduced to 97 for four.

Wickets kept falling on a consistent basis as Australia failed to cash in on the great start provided by Finch and Head.

Alex Carey struck a quickfire 44 off 40 deliveries but was unable to continue his vigil. D’Arcy Short came way down the batting order.

The southpaw looked in good touch and helped Australia inch closer to the 200 mark. The run-rate was always on the higher side.

However, the only issue was wickets which kept on pushing them to the backfoot. It was a great bowling performance by England in the end as they are looking for a 5-0 thrashing.

Moeen Ali was the pick of English bowlers who bagged four wickets.
