ENG vs AUS, 3rd ODI - Twitter Erupts as England Registers the Highest-Ever ODI Score
Updated - 20 Jun 2018, 12:20 AM
England Cricket team shattered an array of records as they posted a staggering total of 481 runs in the third of the five-match ODI series against Australia at Trent Bridge on June 19 (Tuesday).
Batting first, England went all guns blazing at an inexperienced Aussie bowling line-up. The in-form duo of Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy hammered the ball as the bowlers went in search of leather. The pair added 159 runs in 19.3 over before Roy (82) departed against the run of play.
However, the onslaught didn’t stop as Alex Hales picked right from there to bring his first century in 2018. His place was in a spot of bother but he answered his critics with a swashbuckling knock.
On the other hand, Bairstow continued his rich form providing the hosts with his beautiful form. He played some gorgeous looking shots as he brought his consecutive hundred. The Australian bowlers absolutely looked out of socks as they got a good beating.
Meanwhile, Bairstow’s (139) brilliant knock came to an end in the 35th over with the host sitting strong at 334 for 2. However, there was no respite for the Australian bowlers as skipper Eoin Morgan picked right from there. Hales (147) and Morgan (67) added 124 runs before getting out on consecutive deliveries off Jhye Richardson.
Hales continued his blistering hitting at Trent Bridge, turning it into his forte. In 2016, he struck a massive 171 against Pakistan as England posted 44 runs on the board.
However, the visitor’s fought back at the fag end restricting them for 481 for 6. Further, it will be a near-impossible task for the Tim Paine-led side who are in line to lose the series.
Here is how the Twitter reacted:
