England pacer Stuart Broad’s father Chris Broad revealed how his son proved him wrong and made him realise that he can become a great bowler. He admitted at when his child started bowling he didn’t think that he’ll make it to even FC cricket.

Stuart Broad will be having the one final dance in England’s whites today (31st August). He announced the ongoing 5th Test of the Ashes 2023 will be the last game of his career and he wants to finish playing against Australia because of his love affair with the Ashes.

Stuart Broad will go down as one of the best pacers to have played Test cricket. His Career didn’t start on a good note as Yuvraj Singh smoked him for 6 sixes in a T20I game but after that, he rejuvenated himself and ended up bagging over 600 wickets, which says a lot of his calibre.

Even in his late 30s Stuart Broad looks fit and it’s fair to say that he still had 2-3 years of cricket left him. He made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in December 2007 and is the second-highest wicket-taker in terms of fast bowlers in Test cricket. He is just 5th bowler in the history of Test cricket with 600 wickets to his name.

Chris Broad thanked Leicestershire country for finding out the bowler in Stuart Broad because as a batter he didn’t back his son to make it into FC Cricket. Speaking to BBC TMS, he explained:

“Thank you to Leicestershire for seeing the ability of him as a bowler because I didn’t see that, and I was looking at his batting and I thought, well, I don’t really think he’s going to make it in first-class cricket as a batsman.”

AUS vs ENG: I thought then blimey, this chap can bowl – Chris Broad On Stuart Broad

Chris Broad further recalled when he went to watch a domestic game his son Stuart Broad troubled Stephen Fleming and at that moment he realised he can bowl decently well. He explained:

“But they saw him as a bowler, gave him the opportunity. I went to watch a T20 game between Leicestershire and Notts at Grace Road and Stephen Fleming was the opening batter and captain for Notts at the same time.

“Stuart bowled two or three overs at Stephen Fleming and he couldn’t get the ball off the square in a T20 game. And I thought then blimey, this chap can bowl.”

Stuart Broad, who is the highlight wicket-taker for England in the Ashes, would be looking to end the career on high by making his side win the ongoing game.
