James Anderson, on Tuesday, went past Australia great Glenn McGrath to become the most successful fast-bowler in Tests after dismissing Mohammed Shami in the fifth England vs India Test.

Anderson took his 564th Test wicket with the final ball of England’s summer and overtook the figure of legendary McGrath. He is now fourth on the list of Test wicket takers. The right-arm pacer is still behind spinners Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble.

With India resuming on 58 for three chasing 464 to win, Anderson had a four-over spell at the start of day four. However, he could not add to his wicket tally as KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane went on to stitch a century-plus stand. And when India were nine down, it looked like Anderson would have to wait for some time to break McGrath’s record. However, the star pacer bowled Shami with a vicious in-swinger to take the final wicket of the summer and move past McGrath. The wicket also helped England bowl India out for 345 and win the game by 118 runs.
