ENG vs IND 2018: No DRS In Southampton Test For A Brief Time Due To Problem With Hawk-Eye
England and India players might feel hard done by any umpiring decision go against them in the ongoing gourth England vs India Test. The reason behind the same is the absence of Decision Review System.
The second day of the game is currently underway in Southampton and the match is finely poised. In reply to England’s first innings total of 246, India were 142 for 2 before England struck back. The hosts dismissed Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane in quick succession to claw their way back in the game. However, the game could witness some controversy due to the absence of the Decision Review System.
The reason behind the absence of the system is the absence of Hawk-Eye. It is a tracking system that helps the official to minimise errors in the game. So far, the series has avoided any big or major controversy but the absence of DRS can possibly create it if the on-field umpires come up with any wrong decision.
The DRS has always divided opinions ever since being inducted in the game.
A couple of years ago, it had come under scrutiny after the Hawk-Eye ball tracking system was shown to get one wrong.
South African batsman AB de Villiers was clean bowled by Australia’s Josh Hazlewood during an ODI. However, in replays of the dismissal Hawk-Eye inaccurately predicted that the ball would go on to miss the stumps.
India had long resisted use of Hawk-Eye in international cricket and did not use the system in matches at home. But it started doing so after the International Cricket Council made it mandatory.
