The recently-concluded ODI series against England had started on a stunning note for both India as well as Rohit Sharma. The opening batsman had scored a stunning century to help India crush England in the series-opener.

Rohit had come to the United Kingdom after a forgettable outing in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians. For the first time in eleven seasons, he had failed to cross the 300-run mark, as his team finished fifth. But it mattered little, as he hit the ground running. In the first T20I against Ireland, he missed another T20I century by just three runs.

Some average outings followed it before he made amends with a stunning show in the all-important T20I series-decider in Bristol. It was an innings of the highest quality as his unbeaten century made a target of 199 look ridiculously easy.

He continued his red-hot form in the first ODI too, scoring an unbeaten 137 to help India chase down 269 without breaking any sweat. The right-handed batsman opened the innings and remained till the end to take the team home.

However, things went downhill from thereon for both Rohit as well as India. In the second game,  he scored only 15 as India lost the game by 86 runs.

And the right-hander failed to bounce back from the failure in the third ODI on Tuesday. In fact, it was an innings that attracted widespread criticism. Rohit could manage only two runs in the series-decider. What made things worse for him was that he used up 18 deliveries to score those two runs.

And the fans did not take long to take a dig at Rohit for his poor knock. Here are some of the reactions:

Coming to the game, England thrashed India by 8 wickets to seal the three-match series.  Asked to bat first, India could manage only 256 for 8 in the 50 overs. Virat Kohli top-scored for the team, scoring 71.

In reply, England rode on Joe Root’s century and Eoin Morgan’s 88 to chase down the total inside 45 overs at the loss of just two wickets.
