One good knock from Virat Kohli’s willow has answered a helluva of questions. Initially, ahead of the first Test at Edgbaston, the cricket pundits were after Indian skipper’s batting record. However, the run-machine vanished all of them away with a single flourish. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar comes out with a shrewd statement to all the critics. He wrote in Times of India that a player like Virat Kohli doesn’t need county stints.

In fact, he added the less talented players should improve their skills in county games.

Virat Kohli and Ashwin proved the point: Sunil Gavaskar

The legendary Indian cricketer furtherly added the 2014 tour for Virat Kohli, and Ashwin is a forgettable one and mentioned both players had made giant strides in international cricket since then.

He went on to slam the other cricketers saying the other batsmen in the side should have a county stint. Praising Virat Kohli, Gavaskar wrote the Indian skipper can score runs on any wicket.

“Kohli and Ashwin had unfinished business in England. Their last tour of England in 2014 was a forgettable one. In the intervening period, both have taken giant steps to greatness and have almost reached the summit. The last leg in England was a difficult one but with the first Test time time just half way done, they have conquered the peak and cemented his place in the pantheon of greats of the game,” Gavaskar wrote.

“In doing so, Kohli made a mockery of the thinking that he needed to play county cricket to get a big score in England. Kohli is an exceptional talent and can get runs even if he wakes up in the middle of the night,” Gavaskar added.

More than Virat, other guys should spend time on red-ball: Gavaskar

The former Indian opener furtherly slammed the other cricketers to devote time to the red-ball practice. He feels we have a lot of lesser talented cricketers compared to Virat Kohli.

“More than him, it is the other guys who have lesser talent who needed to spend more time playing against the red ball, as was seen by the way they struggled against the moving ball. Even if India go on to win the Test and the series, the decision to play just one three-day game in fortnight’s gap has clearly not helped the other batsmen,” he added.

All in all, Virat Kohli showed his worth as a player and the team management requires a lot of tinkering with their batting department.
