ENG vs IND 2018: Twitter Erupts As India Thrash England To Keep Series Alive

India beat England by 203 runs in the third England vs India Test at Trent Bridge to keep the five-match series alive. England were all for 317 while chasing 521. India now trail the series 2-1.

The fate of the game was pretty much decided as early as the third day when India set England a target of 521.  It was always a matter of how long England would delay the inevitable. And the hosts managed to push the game into the fifth and final day.

India had made a bright start to day four. Ishant Sharma took only five balls to give India their first breakthrough by dismissing Keaton Jennings. In his next over, he sent back Alastair Cook  to put India on top, Ollie Pope and Joe Root added 30 runs to stop the rot for a while. However, Bumrah and Shami dismissed Root and Pope respectively to leave England reeling at 62 for 4.

At that time, it looked like India would wrap up the game inside four days. But Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes were not ready to throw in the towel yet. The duo stitched together an 169-run stand to give their team a glimmer of home. Buttler scored his maiden ton while Stokes crossed the fifty-run mark for the first time in the series.

It looked like India would toil hard for the remainder of the day before they took the second new ball and totally changed the course of the game. In his second over with the new ball, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Buttler and Jonny Bairstow off successive deliveries to all but seal the game. He then dismissed Chris Woakes while Hardik Pandya accounted for Ben Stokes to reduce England to 241 for 8 from 231 for 4. But then Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad shared a 50-run stand to further frustrate the visitors.

Bumrah returned to send back Broad but Rashid and Anderson managed to hold on and ensured a final-day finish to the game.

And on the fifth day, Rashid and Anderson tried to delay the inevitable but could not succeed for long.  Ashwin ended England’s fight by dismissing Anderson.
