India’s Rishabh Pant, who first made his impression with the bat on day one of the Trent Bridge Test made a good account of his wicket-keeping skills on day two in Nottingham. He bagged five catches till the eighth wicket fell for England.
In the meanwhile, Pant also became the first India wicketkeeper to bag five catches in his debut Test.
Rishabh Pant takes five catches on his debut
Cricketing pundits questioned Rishabh Pant’s wicket-keeping technique in the past. However, he had put that to rest with some excellent catching.
Among his five catches, the best of the lot was the one of Chris Woakes. It was Hardik Pandya who bowled a bouncer to Chris Woakes, and he was left searching for the room, as Woakes managed to feather it straight behind the stumps.
The ball was swirling in the air and Pant completed a brilliant catch with one hand which put England further under pressure.
However, the Indian bowlers were pretty ordinary before lunch. Later, they got their act right in the 2nd session and bagged all the ten English wickets. The first wicket fell to Ishant Sharma at the score of 54, and from there on, it was one after the other who headed back to the pavilion.
Hardik Pandya produced a magnificent spell of fast bowling and bagged the wicket of Joe Root on the very first ball he bowled. He bowled in the perfect areas and let the pitch do the talking. For the first time, a swing bowling Pandya was on display. We have hardly witnessed Pandya bowl that full. He bagged the wicket of Jonny Bairstow with a beautiful away swinging delivery.
The next three wickets included the likes of Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad. Woakes was surprised by a short-pitched delivery. On the other hand, the wickets of Rashid and Broad fell to full-length deliveries.
