The two respective cricketing boards of England and Sri Lanka could be set for a legal battle to decide how the World Test Championship points will be divided between the two sides after the two-match Test series was called off due to coronavirus fears.

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has had grave effects not just on public health, but it’s causing a massive uproar in sports fraternities as well. England were due to tour Sri Lanka later this month, but the tour had to be called off.

Now, looking forward, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are at odds with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) regarding the division of World Test Championship points.

The two respective boards of England and Sri Lanka will have to find a date to reschedule the two-match Test series, otherwise, Test championship points will be distributed between the two nations.

They both are in dire need of points because, England are languishing at fourth in the Test Championship tally, with 146 points from nine matches.

Sri Lanka meanwhile is ranked sixth, having played just four matches, and have 80 points to show for it.

The two cricketing nations are expected to reshuffle the fixtures in January but it could be tricky for England as they have to play a five-match Test series with India in the second half of that month.

Prior to that, the three-lions also have limited-overs commitments with South Africa for a five-match series.

Moreover, there is a small matter of the ICC T20 World Cup in the winter, so that period will also be hectic.

Due to this, the cricket boards of each team will have to come up with a proper plan or risk sharing the points, which clearly doesn’t help either team much, in terms of the points tally.
