England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow has taken over India skipper and batting mainstay Virat Kohli as the highest run-scorer in 2018 in the ongoing second Test match at Lord’s in London.

Meanwhile, Bairstow played a magnificent knock of 93 runs to take England out of a precarious situation on day three.

Bairstow now has 1,482 runs under his belt across all formats (Test, One-day Internationals, and Twenty20 Internationals).

Bairstow was on 1,389 and needed just 15 runs to surpass Kohli before the start of the England innings. Kohli, however, has 1,404 runs to his name in 2018 calendar year.

Bairstow toppled Kohli in style, scoring a 93 off 144 balls, thus bringing his 19th Test half-century. But he missed an excellent hundred at the iconic Lord’s by seven runs getting out to medium pacer Hardik Pandya.

Kohli, who is second in the list of the highest run-scorer in 2018 has an equal number of centuries to Jonny Bairstow’s five.

Furthermore, England captain Joe Root is third on the list of highest run-scorer in 2018.

Three Lions batting mainstay Root has 357 runs at an average of 50.25, including three centuries and ten half-centuries.

Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman is fourth on the chart with 1181 runs. He has two centuries and eight fifties to his name at an average of 65.61.

England on top after the culmination of day three; Jonny Bairstow and Woakes

The hosts rode on a timely 180-run partnership between Chris Woakes and Bairstow to save England from a precious situation. India dominated the morning session with Mohammed Shami striking twice at the stroke of lunch.

Since then, it was all England as Indian bowlers had tiny things do. Bairstow played some gorgeous looking shot as he toppled Virat Kohli as the highest run-scorer in 2018. On the other hand, Woakes brought a magnificent hundred.

Although Jonny Bairstow departed on 93, Sam Curran and Woakes kept the proceedings going. England now leads by 250 runs with two days still left in the game.
