England pacer Ben Stokes castled KL Rahul’s timber with a brilliant inswinger after the latter played whirlwind knock to put India in command on day two of the third Test at Trent Bridge.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya skittled the hosts for a mere 161 runs banking on a brilliant five-wicket haul. Stuart Broad started off the proceedings after England seamers cleaned the Indian tail cheaply.

The hosts got off to a good start putting 54 runs for the first wicket before Alastair Cook departed. Since then it was a rollercoaster ride for England and Pandya ran through the English batting. However, it was the little cameo from Jos Buttler that reduced the lead for India. He added 39 runs off just 32 balls to guide his side cross the 150-run mark.

Much to everybody’s surprise, Virat Kohli took a defensive call not to make England follow on. However, the openers once again provided India with a good start adding fifty runs, second time in this match. Both Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul looked in great touch taking the attack to the opposition.

KL Rahul departs after a little cameo

After providing a swashbuckling start, Rahul failed to capitalise yet another knock. He played some gorgeous looking shots through the covers to put some early pressure on England.

However, he missed an inswinger from Ben Stokes to depart scoring 36 runs off just 33 deliveries including seven fours. KL Rahul’s head falls across as he leaves a gap between bat and pad whilst trying a booming off-drive. The in-seamer sneaks through to leave his stumps in a mess. In fact, deflects off the pad and then goes onto the stumps.

Stokes provides the first breakthrough for England in the second innings. But, this was a useful knock in context to extend the lead for India quickly and heap the pressure on the hosts.
