Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar reckons it won’t be easy for the visiting team to chase down the target set by England in the fourth innings at Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Meanwhile, England are 233 runs ahead at the end of the third day’s play with two wickets still in hand. Sam Curran, who has been a significant find for England is still at the crease with 37 runs to his name.

However, the Indian pacers have done an outstanding job with the ball and have earned accolades from all over the world.

Veteran Gavaskar also shared high praise for the fast bowlers from India. Mohammed Shami was the golden boy for touring team in the third day as he ran through England middle-order to scuttle their lead.

India’s seam bowlers have been quite outstanding, with Bumrah leading the pack. He has bowled with pace and got the ball to move considerably and has been a threat just about every ball. Ishant has been steady without looking as dangerous as he did in the first couple of Tests,” he maintained in his column for ToI.

“Mohammed Shami has blown hot and cold but to be fair he has been unlucky too, as he has gone past the outside edge often. They gave India the upper hand on Day One after England won the toss and batted and here again they have given India a chance to level the series,” Gavaskar maintained.

It won’t be an easy task for India against England: Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar, who is currently commentating in the ongoing series feels it will be a tough job to chase in the fourth innings. He also added that the touring side knew they didn’t want to chase more than 150 or 200.

India knew that they did not want to chase more than 150 to 200 in the second innings for it is not going to be easy batting in the fourth innings,” Gavaskar concluded.

Meanwhile, India will look to level the five-match Test series beating England in Southampton. They are currently trailing the series 2-1 with one match still to play.
