There are no doubts whatsoever on the minds of cricketing pundits regarding the credentials of Virat Kohli as a batsman. But, his recent stint as a skipper in English conditions is opening debates on his captaincy skills. So far, in ongoing England vs India battle, barring Kohli other batsmen struggled to survive. The former Windies great Sir Clive Llyod who was the skipper of Windies cricket when they were ruling the world cricket with their breathtaking skills.

However, the veteran feels that the Indian skipper, Kohli is still a ‘work in progress’.

The all-time great tactician reiterated it takes some time to give a call on Kohli as a leader. Meanwhile, Lloyd added that the batting mainstay is showing good signs.

Speaking of his aggression, Lloyd added as far as the aggression is in his control its fine for him at the team. Llyod is in favour of Kohli’s aggressive attitude which is a good sign for cricket.

”I think Virat is still a work in progress and it will take us some time to take a final call on his captaincy. But yes, he has shown positive signs. Yes, he is aggressive, but as long as he doesn’t cross the line, it’s fine by me. Aggression, after all, is not a bad thing,” Lloyd said.

Llyod had seen distinct skippers leading Indian team. He highlighted the captaincy of Bishan Singh Bedi during those times. Coming to the recent times, he picked Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the best category.

He went on to hail Dhoni for his authoritative captaincy and the way he led the team.

Clive Llyod termed Dhoni as the best tactician and a quite inspirational captain of India.

”Probably you are right, but still, they are playing under the flag of one country. When I was playing I had seen five different Indian captains – Tiger Pataudi, Ajit Wadekar, Bishan Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. They had their own distinctive styles. I found Bedi quite good,” Clive Llyod quoted as per Times of India.

”In recent times, it has to be Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. Dhoni was such a fantastic captain you had. He was quite inspirational, a good tactician and led the team with a lot of authority. I liked his style of captaincy,” he added.

However, with England vs India series going on, it would be interesting to see where Virat Kohli will finish at the end of his captaincy career. Only time can reveal the answer.
