The wicketkeeper-batsman of England, Jos Buttler feels England needs to be more aggressive in certain facets in the remaining four Test matches.

Buttler also admits England needs to rectify their catching practice, especially in slip cordon to extend their lead on India in Tests. However, England and India will lock horns in the second Test, starting August 9 at Lord’s.

Moreover, Jos Buttler feels the India skipper Virat Kohli might have scored a pile of runs in the first Test, but he had to go through a lot of work to do so.

Buttler took solace with the fact that Dawid Malan dropped him twice which the India captain capitalise and eventually score runs. However, Virat Kohli scored his maiden ton on the English soil in the Edgbaston Test.

“It was a brilliant hundred from Kohli in the first innings, but you have to give the bowlers credit too. He really had to battle for all of his runs, and we created some chances which weren’t taken. That’s something for us to work on this week, trying to be more clinical.” Buttler wrote on Sky Sports.

Jos Buttler further asserted that England needs to improve the area of middle-order especially. He thinks the hosts could not capitalise after an excellent partnership between Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in the first inning.

“Even though we won at Edgbaston, there are definitely some areas for us to work on. We were 216/3 in the first innings, with Root and Jonny Bairstow going very well, and we didn’t capitalise on that. And then, bowling, we had India 100-5, but allowed them to get up close to our score.”

So far as Jos Buttler is concerned, he had a miserable outing in the Edgbaston Test. He scored a nought in the first inning, whereas, a mere one run in the second one. Despite this, Buttler thinks he is not bogged down by this.

“They are a couple of areas we need to brush up on while, individually, I had a very quiet game, so I’m looking to contribute a lot more. I still feel in a good place. I’ve been in the form of my life this summer, so I’m trying not to let one poor game to affect that. I’ll work hard in the nets this week, and I look forward to what is always a special occasion playing at Lord’s.” he said.
