Out of favour Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir feels anything above 350 will be an outstanding total in the third Test between India and England at Trent Bridge. The visiting team batted pretty well on the day one of the third Test and posted a score of 307 for six at the end of the day’s play.

Gambhir said it was a brilliant day of Test cricket and both teams will be happy how things have panned out.

However, he felt that India will be the happier unit as they posted a total of 300 or more for the very first time in the series.

“Virat Kohli will be a very happy captain. Plus the partnership which he had with Ajinkya Rahane was very very crucial. Obviously getting that partnership of more than 100 runs and not losing a wicket in the 2nd session obviously credit must be given to both of them,” Gambhir said during his video interaction with the Times of India.

“So I feel anything above 350 will be a good total. It will at least give the bowlers something to bowl at,” Gambhir said.

England vs India: Gautam Gambhir hails Kohli and Pant

“For me, the performer of the day was definitely Rahane and Kohli,” Gambhir stated.

It was a brilliant partnership between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane which got India into a commanding position. Both struck some excellent shots during their partnership and was looking in complete control of proceedings.

Both were looking set for well deserved centuries, but a loss in concentration brought about their downfall. Stuart Broad dismissed Rahane after making an impressive 81.

Kohli, on the other hand, fell just three runs short of his 23rd Test ton.

England India Trent Bridge
Here is the twitter reaction of day one of the third Test between England and India at Trent Bridge.

“It was a good day’s Test cricket. Both teams will be happy will proceedings. But India will be a happier lot. For the first time, they have got runs on the board,” he maintained.

“Tomorrow will be a very important day. India will look to score at least 350 and more obviously they will be in a very good position. They will look to dominate the Test from there on. But things tend to change quickly in England. So all will depend on the kind of partnership Pant and Ashwin has. But the bowlers would be pretty happy that they have got 300 for the first time in the series,” he added.
