In a game of cricket, the number three batting position holds a place for a special batsman in the side. But, former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels that it should not be the same when it comes to the Test cricket. Furtherly, he asked England skipper Joe Root to drop down his place. He suggested Root to switch his batting position to deliver the goods effectively for England like Virat Kohli and Australian Steven Smith.
The former English batsman Vaughan also cited few examples to switch Joe Root from number 3 position.
Joe Root Should play at Number four – Michael Vaughan
The Englishman in his blog wrote the best batsman in the team should always play at number four as far as Test cricket is concerned.
Vaughan mentioned that Virat Kohli of India plays at the same position in the Tests.

Much to the same, he also added that Smith also used to play at the number three for Australia in Test.
Additionally, Vaughan wants Joe Root to push his place to number four. Vaughan feels that the injury of Jonny Bairstow will undoubtedly help to solve it as well.
”Virat Kohli bats at four. Steve Smith bats at four. The idea that the best batsman should bat at three is nonsense. In this era they often bat at four,” Michael Vaughan wrote in his blog.
”I really believe that Joe Root should bat at four too. It’s where he wants to bat and when your best player is so good they should bat where they like – because that’s where they’ll make the most runs which are best for the team, just like with Kohli and Smith. I personally would go back to the best player at number four,” he added.

Joe Root is yet to deliver in the series, Michael Vaughan backs England:
Apart from the first game at Edgbaston, Root failed consistently to deliver the goods for England. He used to be the prominent run-scorer for England Tests especially, against Indian side.
However, he fared pretty poorly in the last five innings. With the series on offer to the bag, the England team management would hope their skipper comes good at The Rose Bowl in Southampton.
