England vs India 2018: Results Matter and the Scoreline is 4-1 - Gautam Gambhir

Overlooked India opener, Gautam Gambhir congratulated the England cricket team on an impressive series win. He also lauded the efforts of the Indian pacers and had a particular word for a debutant, Rishabh Pant.

Barring the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, the others failed to live up to the expectation. The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane did well in patches but couldn’t perform on a consistent basis. England, on the other hand, batted with a lot of grit.

“I thought it was a very interesting series. There were times when India dominated, but I thought England were deserving winners. 4-1 was a great result for England.”

On the positives for India, Gambhir said the pace department has been impressive.

“Fast bowling has been a positive for India in this series. The performance was as good as English pacers and probably better. India had three fast bowlers who could bowl at pace, the pacers bowled well in tandem.” he told TOI.

He also said the English middle and lower order were good. Many a time the all-rounders and the lower-order batsmen bailed the hosts out of trouble.

“England batted very well, especially the middle and lower order,” he said.

Gambhir also praised debutant Rishabh Pant, who had a good series overall. Pant had a learning experience behind the stumps in different condition. He scored his maiden ton in the fifth Test match at The Oval. Though his hundred went in vain, the youngster can take great heart from the series.

The out of favour India opener stressed hard on the scoreline and said at the end of the day the results matter.

“You can compete as much as you want, you can fight as much as you can, but results matter. The result is 4-1, and England are deserving winners,” he said.
