England vs India 2018: Rishabh Pant Is The First Wicketkeeper From India To Collect Five Catches On The Debut

The new wicketkeeper-batsman of India, Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to collect five catches behind the wickets on his debut. He is overall the third wicketkeeper-batsman in Test format. He joined the Elite Club with Brian Taber of Australia who became the first to do so.

Taber achieved this record against England in 1966. John MacLean was the second wicketkeeper who completed this in 1978. Surprisingly, all of these records came against India.

He is fourth overall wicketkeeper from India to take five catches in an inning. Tumhane was the first wicketkeeper to do so. He achieved this feat against Pakistan at Dhaka in 1955.

Kiran More achieved this record against England in 1986 at Lord’s. Naman Ojha embraced the feat against Sri Lanka at Colombo in 2015.

The catch of opening batsman, Alastair Cook was his first dismissal behind this wickets. Adil Rashid was the fifth English batsman involving debutant Rishabh Pant.

Without any nervousness, he looked calm and composure. Besides this feat, he started his Test account with a six. Pant scored 24 with the help of six and two boundaries before turning the victim of Stuart Broad.

India put a target of 329 with the help of 97 from Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane who scored 81 runs.

In reply to it, England lost the plot completely. Hardik Pandya was the star with the ball who took a wicket of his first delivery of the spell. Within a blink of an eye, he completed his fifer destroying the middle-order of England.

The England skipper, Joe Root was the first victim of Hardik Pandya. His five include, Joe Root, Johnny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid and Stuart Broad.
