In the ongoing Oval Test match in London between England and India, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar stated that Karun Nair needs an answer from the management team.
However, Karun Nair has been part of India’s squad in all the series. Hanuma Vihari has been added for the fourth and fifth Test at Kia Oval. Veteran batsman Gavaskar has come down on hard on the Indian team’s repeated ignoring of middle-order batsman Nair.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh-based batsman Hanuma Vihari made his Test debut against England.
On September 7, 2018 (Friday), The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted images of Vihari. He received his first international cap.
Meanwhile, Gavaskar was angry with the management to drop Nair, who in 2016 became only the second Test triple centurion for India out of the XI.
Moreover, Gavaskar also said that Nair has his every right to know that why he has not been taken in the Indian team from the management.
“Karun Nair has every right to ask the team management why he is not in the team,” said Gavaskar.
However, Gavaskar also added that the team should have taken an extra specialist batsman earlier.
But, the management is having a middle-order batsman like Nair with them. But still, they didn’t consider him in the XI. Gavaskar also maintained the management might not like him, and he is not a favourite player.
“He deserves an answer. You didn’t pick an extra specialist batsman earlier, but now that you have, Karun Nair deserves an answer. He is not your favourite player. The selectors seem to have brought him. I don’t think the team management likes him,” Gavaskar speaking on Sony Six.
Moreover, a right-hand batsman, Karun Nair has played six Test matches for his country and had scored 374 runs with an average of 62.33. Sunil Gavaskar feels it has been all hard for him.
Nair also scored a triple hundred scoring unbeaten 303 runs off his bat for India against England in Chennai.
