It seems like luck isn’t in favour of Karun Nair. Ever since he scored the triple century against England at Chepauk in Chennai, he wasn’t given enough chances to settle himself in the team. Moreover, when it looked like the right time to call Nair back in the Team India, the management opted to hand the debut cap to promising Hanuma Vihari.
So, after the impressive performances in the domestic circuit, BCCI selectors recalled Nair in the India team for England’s Test tour. However, he was benched in the first four Tests and used him to carry the drinks.
Karun Nair, once again ignored:
So much so, it was initially expected that Nair will be given a chance for the final Test at the Kennington Oval as the batsmen are struggling to face English bowlers.
However, management again ignored Nair as Andhra Pradesh-based youngster Vihari has been introduced in the playing XI.
The possible reason could be the extra incentive of bowling for Vihari could have made India overlook Nair. In addition, all in all, it is quite harsh on the youngster, who is touring with the team for a long time now.
India who lost the toss at The Kennington Oval in London made a couple of changes to their playing XI. However, they brought Ravindra Jadeja back in the side along with the debutant Vihari in place of Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin respectively.
Meanwhile, England fielded the same XI that played in the Southampton Test. Additionally, it is an emotional Test for England team as they have to give the rousing send-off for Alastair Cook after the conclusion of the Test.
Currently, England already sealed the series with 3-1 in the 5-match Test series. However, they would love to make it 4-1 at Kennington Oval to give a fitting farewell for the former skipper, Alastair Cook, who served 12 glorious years.
England vs India: Moreover, Karun Nair misses out to represent visitors –

What a good line on India preferring Vihari over Nair: It's like a kid getting excited by new candy in store everytime and forget what he already has in his bag"

Valid point made by Mr. Gavaskar. Why not play Karun Nair, a proven batsman with a triple century on his back, if you had to pick an extra batsman? Unfair call. #ENGvIND

India's selectors have just made a damning statement of what they think of Karun Nair as a player. Very very hard on him. Would love to know what he was told when the team was announced.

Anyone who tells me that Hanuma Vihari has been picked because he has a bradman-like batting average…I will say rubbish. Vihari has been picked only because he can bowl bit of off-spin. Karun Nair has all the reasons to get furious now. @BCCI https://t.co/OSkLss9gRw

I have immense respect for, and am a huge fan too, of both Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli. But the selection of Hanuma Vihari ahead of Karun Nair is the mother and father of the duo's baffling selections. Sorry! #ENGvIND

Would not like to be Karun Nair right now. Sat through the Afghanistan Test and now the England series. Not considered when finally India adds a batsman.

Shock Test debut for Hanuma Vihari (predictable after practice sessions last couple days, but still!) Meanwhile, Karun Nair is busy twiddling thumbs in some part of London. #EngvInd

Hanuman Vihari getting a test match ahead of Karun Nair is perplexing. Karun must have been singularly unimpressive in the nets. Reminds me of 1986, where when Chetan Sharma was injured, Madan Lal who was playing League cricket was preferred to Prabhakar who was in the squad.

Karun Nair must be really good with the drinks trolley

Good luck to Hanuma Vihari on debut, but just what has Karun Nair done wrong? For five four Tests he has served drinks as India's top order has let their bowlers down. And he still can't get a game. #ENGvIND #KarunNair

Ashish Nehra says Karun nair is in England to Sell Chole…With Kulhca and achar and pyaz free…hahahaha…but Dada also wanted hunuma in place of Pandya…Ashish i think it’s more bcs of all round abilities??? @SGanguly99 @MohammadKaif

Indian team is losing in England because of Virat Kohli's overweening attitude. He plays favourites. Not picking Pujara in the first test, playing an unfit Ashwin in the 4th, and picking up Vihari ahead of Karun Nair are but a few of these examples. Great batsman, poor leader.

I would not want to be Karun Nair today. Surely the management sees something in Vihari that they do not see in Karun. Vihari scores well could mean end of Karun's chances because there is a home tour coming up before Australia. #ENGvIND

If Hanuma Vihari is handed a debut at the Oval, Karun Nair will join the club of India cricketers with shattered confidence #ENGvIND

All the Best Hanuma Vihari. Hope he is not taken for sightseeing for future tours like Karun Nair.

Hanuma Vihari gets in the team ahead of Karun Nair!!!!!!
And btw, Karun has been with the team from the beginning of the series….!!!!
Kudos @BCCI , you're setting a fine example!!!!!#ENGvIND #KarunNair #HanumaVihaari— BM Bhanuprakash (@imbmbp) September 7, 2018

Mayank Aggarwal and Karun Nair, what a pair…one doesn't get picked in the squad and the other never in the playing XI! M sure Mayank wants to be like Karun…atleast in the dressing room, and Karun like Mayank, free and playing in XI, even if A side! https://t.co/W2IzK37Xig

Ahem ahem some coincidence that. Not sure Karun Nair will look at it as a mere coincidence though!!

Karun Nair has every right to ask the team management, what has he done wrong to not be picked in the side.#INDvENG #ENGvIND @vikrantgupta73 @Siddhar54899508
