It is not easy to be in Virat Kohli shoes right now. He scored 593 runs in the five-match series. However, he ended up on the losing side. Thus, it is palpable and understandable that he must be gutted at the result of 4-1. Kohli lost his cool on a journalist who asked him about his remarks on the best Indian side in the last 15 years. Indian head Ravi Shastri had recently said that this is the best run any Indian side has had in the last 15-20 years.
Since the remarks, Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar had also lashed out at Ravi Shastri for his statement.
Kohli takes out his frustration.
Ravi Shastri had recently said, “I can’t see any other Indian team in the last 15-20 years that has had the same run in such a short time, and you have had some great players playing in those series. So the promise is there, and it’s just about getting tougher mentally. You have got to hurt when you lose matches because that’s when you look within and come out with the right kind of answers to combat such situations and get past the finishing line. One day you will if you believe”
Subsequently, when a journalist asked that do these kinds of tags put extra pressure on the team or do you think you are the best side. Virat Kohli said in an irritated tone, “You have to believe you are the best team, why not”.
Journalist continued, “But is this the best Indian side in the last 15 years, that’s what your coach says. Kohli interrupts in between and asks, “What do you think?. Journalist answered in the negative and said, I am not sure, to which Kohli said, “You are not sure, that is your opinion, thank you”.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Virat Kohli has hit out at a journalist. A similar incident had happened when India went on to lose the Test series against South Africa. A journalist then had raised questions over India’s performance while playing overseas and Virat Kohli’s captaincy to play a different XI.
It must be frustrating for Virat Kohli and the Indian captain is trying to put his weight behind his coach’s audacious statements.
