England skipper Joe Root finally came back to form and smashed his 14th Test ton on the day four of the 5th and the final Test against India at the Kennington Oval in London. It was magnificent innings from the captain as he stormed his way to 125 off 190 deliveries. He was too short of runs coming into the final Test. Hence it was the much-needed tonic for both England and their skipper.
After being dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Root wouldn’t have ever thought of scoring a century in the second essay.
However, he defied all the odds and played one of his more memorable knocks. He paced his innings to perfection and shared a huge stand of 259 runs with Alastair Cook.
Root also played the attacking shots whenever the pressure was building on them. Upon reaching his century, Root was a satisfied man, and he celebrated animatedly. His infant son was seen cheering for his father after he reached his hard-fought century.
Joe’s child was seen calling “Roooooooottttt” in the video after his daddy reached a well-deserved Test century.
Meanwhile, the innings by Cook was perhaps the most important of his career.

Not many can even dream of scoring a Test century in his first and the final Test. Cook looked in great touch and looked in complete command of proceedings. After getting himself in, Indian bowlers hardly troubled Cook. He played more deliveries to gain more confidence and started finding the boundaries with ease.
Eventually, it was an overthrow which gave him his 33rd and final Test century. However, among all the centuries, the southpaw might just rate this innings as one of his very best.
On the other hand, England skipper Joe Root struggled to score against India. Hence it was vital for him to score some runs.

Cook, on the other hand, knew that this was his last Test and had nothing to lose.
England is currently in command of the final Test and looks set to take the series by a 4-1 margin.
