After a brilliant opening session for India, they carried on their good work and ended up scoring 292 in their first innings of the 5th Test at The Oval in London. It allowed England to take a 40 runs lead.

However, they would have hoped to take a much bigger lead ahead of the day’s play. It was some resilient batting by debutant Hanuma Vihari and Ravindra Jadeja in the first session which allowed the visitors to get in a comfortable position.

Vihari was dismissed soon after making a half-century. It was a great knock, to say the least as most of the batters have faltered in the series so far.

Despite his dismissal, Jadeja kept the scoreboard ticking, and Ishant Sharma gave him ample support. India began the second session on 240 for seven with Jadeja and Ishant at the crease.

The most pleasing sight in the Test match was Jadeja dancing down the track and smashing James Anderson for a straight six.

The southpaw looked in ominous touch and struck 11 fours, and a six during his imperious knock of 86 runs off 156 deliveries. He ran out of partners in the end as India was bowled out for 292 thus handing England a 40 runs lead.

England has started off pretty well and are yet to lose a wicket in the second innings. Both Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings looked in good touch. Both will play the 3rd session with England’s total of 20 for no loss in nine overs.

Jasprit Bumrah yet again bowled in the right areas and had the English batsmen in trouble.
