England vs West Indies 2020, 3rd Test, Day 5 – Twitter Reactions
Updated - 28 Jul 2020, 09:47 PM
England has completed a comprehensive 269-run win in the third Test at Old Trafford in Manchester to regain the Wisden Trophy and script a come-from-behind series heist after having lost the first Test at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
The man of the day and perhaps the series is undoubtedly Stuart Broad, who registered his name in the pantheons of fast bowling folklore after he became only the 4th fast bowler and seventh overall in the history of the game to claim 500 wickets in Test match cricket.
Broad got the first wicket of the stop-start first session when he claimed Kraig Brathwaite with yet another nip-backer, pinning theWest Indies opener right in front of wickets for his 500th scalp.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to England’s 269-run-win over West Indies-
Cheers @windiescricket for helping save the game of cricket in the UK … Without you guys agreeing to come over in these unprecedented times I have no idea where our game would be .. #ENGvWI

Disappointing end to this historic series but WI would just like to say thank you to @ECB_cricket for hosting us.

Across the series the eXpected bowling averages (based on ball tracking) of the two teams were an identical 30 runs per wicket. England won because their batting withstood that bowling more effectively – averaging 39 (+9 xAve) while West Indies averaged 24 (-6 xAve). #ENGvWI

Hard to remember a touring team whose batsmen get stuck on the crease as much as West Indies'.

Great comeback from England but more importantly great to have a Test series to watch. Huge credit to @windiescricket for touring and being very competitive. #ENGvWI

Most wickets taken by England's pace attack in a men's Test at Old Trafford:
19 v IND, 1946
19 v PAK, 2001
19 v WI, 2020 (3rd Test)?

11 wickets for Chris Woakes in this series, at 15.81.
Only once in his career has he taken more wickets in a series, against Pakistan in 2016 when he took 26 at 16.73.#ENGvWI

"You know we were talking about 500 wickets earlier?"
"Oh yeah?"
"500 Test match wickets."
"Bowling straight to Kraigg Brathwaite."
"That's right."
"Interesting that stuff about him playing around his front pad…"#EngvWI pic.twitter.com/iOqQOKFlZV

A nice stat to back up a point @irbishi started making earlier in the Test about the West Indies not getting forward often enough. In the series WI have lost 12 wickets bowled or lbw when playing on the back foot, suggesting a mis-reading of length. England have lost two. #ENGvWI
— Freddie Wilde (@fwildecricket) July 28, 2020
Before Roston Chase, the last player to get dismissed by a direct-hit and also to affect a direct-hit in a Test match was in 2010 – by another West Indies player, Brendan Nash vs SA.#ENGvWI

Great to see Stuart Broad taking the time to have a long long long long long chat to 23yr old West Indian fast Keon Harding. And all this on the morning that Broad stood on 499 test wickets at the start of play?????? pic.twitter.com/VVwbXOj8S9

Always felt he was going to have a good Test career but I didn’t have 500 Test wickets in the equation !!! Skill, resilience, hard work, stubbornness … And when you think he started out as a Batsman … A great… https://t.co/Rj5euOf7Xw

500 to Broad. Keeps coming at you all the time…extremely skilful in Seam-bowling…especially for someone who comes from the land of swing bowling. #ENGvsWI

Momentous occasion in Test history. First time ever that two fast bowlers with 500 wickets are playing in the same match. Anderson and Broad. #RoyalPair

500 Test wickets for Stuart Broad – the last 100 have come at only 22 apiece.
How Broad reinvented himself, bowling fuller, targeting the stumps more, and being more aggressive with the new ball, to reinvigorate his career. https://t.co/7WTwTKTo2Q

Stuart Broad has now taken nine wickets in this series with balls that would have hit or clipped the stumps. Only once in his career has he taken more in a single Test series (the Ashes last summer). #ENGvWI pic.twitter.com/nxoIYC1Qcm

Stuart Broad and James Anderson are the only Englishmen to have 500 Test wickets. Both reached the landmark by dismissing Kraigg Brathwaite, and with remarkably similar deliveries. #ENGvWI pic.twitter.com/E9TGQ2UiVX

500 Test wickets for Stuart Broad.
In 2007, he was hit for 6 sixes by Yuvraj in a T20I match and 13 years later, he has completed 500 wicket landmark in Test.
Take a bow, Broad. pic.twitter.com/tyD7JK6KhL

Seems a perfect microcosm of Stuart Broad's career that his 500th Test wicket will always carry mention of Anderson's. #EngvWI
