Enoch Nkwe Appointed As Interim Team Director Of South Africa

After the recent confirmation of leaving the current staff, the respective South African board named Enoch Nkwe as the Interim Team director of South Africa. He will be in charge of the team for the upcoming T20 and Test Series against India, starting on September 15. The tour consists of three T20 internationals and three Test matches.

Recently, CSA announced that Gibson, as well as the coaching staff he worked with over the past two years, would not have their contracts renewed. The decision came after the team finished seventh at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Nkwe’s appointment follows Cricket South Africa’s decision to not renew head coach Ottis Gibson’s contract. The head coach and team manager positions have since been dissolved – and a team director introduced.

On being appointed the interim Director, Nkwe expressed his appreciation for the opportunity: “It is a tremendous honour and privilege to lead the Standard Bank Proteas as the interim team director. It is a special moment for me and my family.

Speaking of the appointment, Van Zyl expressed his excitement for the addition of Enoch Nkwe in the side. He believes that Nkwe got the goods in him to deliver for the team across the formats.

The 36-year-old, Nkwe compiled 1768 runs and picked up 29 wickets in first-class cricket over a career spanning seven years. And also, he coached Lions to the title in the Four-Day Franchise series in the 2018-19 season. He was also the coach of Jozi Stars who won the inaugural Mzansi Super League.
