Eoin Morgan Feels Series Win Over India is More Important Than to Top ODI Charts

England skipper Eoin Morgan on Monday (July 16) has insisted that the series win is more valuable than retaining the number one position while being one of the top-ranked One-Day International sides in the contemporary cricket.

Meanwhile, the hosts will retain the spot even if they lose the series decider of July 17 (Tuesday) at Headingley in Leeds. Morgan and his men have levelled the series with an 86-run win at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Saturday (July 14.

“Totally, totally. To beat them in a series would be quite significant, confidence-wise it would be quite significant. This winner-takes-all game, it’s brilliant,” AFP quoted Morgan as saying.

Southpaw Morgan believes the 50-over series win will be a bigger morale boost than being at the perch of ODI rankings.

“Having a game like this is crucial for us. It’s a significant game on Tuesday. Kuldeep (Yadav) might bowl really well again, (Umesh) Yadav might bowl well. We’ve got to give yourself that chance to play well,” he added.

Young spinner Kuldeep Yadav returned with six fo 25 in the first outing in Nottingham, however, the English batters played more sensibly in the last game. Morgan admits it will be easier when they start playing him more.

“We started better against him and the more we face him obviously the easier he got to pick. But you’ve got to play him well still,” he added.

The Middlesex batsman Morgan also lauded Test skipper Joe Root for a brilliant century and stamp his authority in this team.

Eoin Morgan along with Root registered a significant partnership to guide their team to a massive total of 322 in London.

“I thought Joe was quite significant in that, his rotation of strike, his calm head and we did our basics well. All of our plans are about positive thinking, and we shouldn’t veer away from that,” concluded Morgan.
