Eoin Morgan Hilariously Picks Sri Lanka After Journalist Asks Him If Jofra Archer Is The Surprise Package At WC

While Jofra Archer is definitely new to the international scene, it is safe to say that he is not a surprise package. The highly-rated pace bowling allrounder has been plying his trade in T20 leagues across the globe for quite some time now and has more or less played all the big names. No surprises that England captain Eoin Morgan does not rate him as a surprise package in this World Cup.

And Morgan’s assessment of Archer not being the surprise package for this year’s World Cup led to hilarious scenes during the press conference. It all started with a journalist asking Morgan:

“Do you believe Jofra Archer is the main surprise package of this tournament?”

An amused Morgan then came up with an interesting and hilarious answer as he said Sri Lanka are the surprise package for having ten new faces in their side.

“No, Sri Lanka got about ten new members or something. Don’t they? Sri Lanka have picked a couple of guys I haven’t played against and I have been playing for ten years. I think that’s the surprise (package) for me.”

Archer, meanwhile, has justified the faith shown in him with a starring role for England against South Africa in the tournament-opener. The Barbados-born allrounder picked up three wickets for just 27 runs from his seven overs to help England bowl out the Proteas for just 207 while defending 311.

“Slowish pitch, he (Archer) bowled fast and accurate and it’s outstanding. He is taking everything in his stride at the moment and he is improving everyday and that’s very exciting. Huge amount of pleasure. It’s an area we were always trying to improve on and certainly we are looking for match winning contributions in the field,” Eoin Morgan had said after the game in praise of Archer.
