Batting first, New Zealand posted a challenging total of 240 runs on a double-paced Lord’s wicket. Henry Nicholls played a good hand with supports from Kane Williamson and Jimmy Neesham after an outstanding effort from the English bowlers. Chasing 241 runs, England banked on an excellent partnership between Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler to stage the win. But New Zealand bounced back with a few wickets and luck going by the host, England managed to secure a tie taking the game to the Super Over.

Much to the surprise of the fans, the Super Over also ended in a tie. England managed to post 15 runs with Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler once again doing the job with the bat for the side. Jofra Archer, who played his first World Cup, was handed the ball to defend the target who made a nervous start with a wide. Jimmy Neesham continued his excellent form to take the game deep, but an outstanding work from Jos Buttler in the last ball of the Super Ove helped England secure a tie, but England became the champions on the boundary count.
It was the biggest achievement for the English cricket as the Eoin Morgan-led side ended their barren run in the trophy. Morgan played a crucial role to change the face of England cricket since their ouster from the group stages of the 2015 World Cup. He has encouraged them to play a brand of fearless cricket as the current crop of players look confident and has an attitude of beating any team.
Recently, a fan took to Twitter, to reveal that he has named his newborn baby after Eoin Morgan to World Cup success etched within themselves forever. The English skipper replied to the tweet thanking for such a huge honour.
“Thats very cool. Congratulations,” Morgan responded.
