The Barmy Army had two special gifts for Virat Kohli after the first day's play against Essex.

There is hardly any doubt about the fact that Indian skipper Virat Kohli is the best modern-day batsman across all formats. He has been a class apart from his peers, and his records go on to prove his credentials in the international circuit.

The India captain has been a run machine for India, and his form will be instrumental to India’s success for the upcoming five-match Test series against hosts England, starting August 1st.

Kohli has been successful everywhere he has travelled so far. However, England has been one such country where his record isn’t great. Virat had performed quite miserably in 2014 when India had toured England the last time around. The right-handed batsman was troubled quite often outside the off stump and kept fishing at deliveries.

Kohli kept nicking at deliveries outside the off stump. A technical glitch was evident in his batting. However, Virat Kohli is a much-improved player now. He has worked very hard in the past few years and has stamped his authority worldwide.

Barmy Army’s special present to Kohli

Ahead of the much-anticipated Test series, the famous English fan group, “The Barmy Army” presented Kohli with the International player awards for the year 2017 and 2018.

It was after the end of the opening day’s play against Essex at their county ground. The Indian cricket team’s official Twitter handle posted a picture of the skipper with a Barmy Army representative. He was seen handing over the presents to the Indian skipper.

The Indian skipper looked in decent touch during the limited-overs series. Though Virat couldn’t convert any one of the starts to a big hundred.

However, his knocks of 70 odds were enough to prove that he is the top draw. India is currently the No 1 Test side and leads the 2nd placed South Africa by a good 18 points. Their authority in this format is such that even a 5-0 series whitewash at the hands of England will still see them occupy the No 1 position.

Meanwhile, Team India is currently playing a three-day practice game against the Essex county side.

On the first day, India managed to score 322/6 courtesy useful half-centuries by Kohli, Murali Vijay, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik. The wicket-keeper batsman will be looking forward to a well-deserved century today. He is unbeaten on 82.
