Essex has appointed former England all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas as their new assistant head coach. Mascarenhas will particularly look after the bowling group while newly appointed head coach Antony McGrath scheduled to nurse batsmen.
Mascarenhas has represented England in 20 ODIs and 14 T20Is in the top-flight cricket. However, he made a name for himself in franchise cricket all over the world.
The 40-year-old has extensive experience in County cricket playing almost 500 games for Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Mascarenhas expressed an early interest in the Leicestershire bowling coach role eventually filled by Matt Mason.
Previously, he worked as a bowling for the New Zealand cricket team between June 2015 and January 2016 but quit citing family reasons.
Also, he has worked as the head coach of Otago Volts before taking up the New Zealand role.
Most recently, Mascarenhas worked as a bowling coach for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League.
Dimitri Mascarenhas will bring a lot of knowledge and experience:
Mascarenhas will work to improve Essex’s white-ball skills in all departments. Although, he will still have a crucial role to play in preparing the Championship team. Essex will look to retain the championship title they won last year.

Head coach McGrath admitted they wanted someone like Mascarenhas.
“It is a real coup to bring him to Chelmsford,” said McGrath.
“We have been looking for someone with Dimi’s credentials, and having worked in competitions around the world, he brings with him a lot of knowledge and experience,” added McGrath.
“He will bring a tactical nous to our white-ball cricket and help the squad improve on our performances in the One-Day Cup and T20 Blast in recent seasons. I know our bowlers are looking forward to working with him, and the whole squad will benefit from his technical and tactical knowledge as we prepare for another exciting season,” concluded McGrath.
